SDJC is a museum of opera masks. These masks are facial designs used in Chinese traditional opera. SDJC represents four different categories of masks. In traditional Peking Opera, each historical character portrayed in the performance has a unique design painted on the actor's face. The colors, symbols, and exaggerated artistic designs of the facial makeup convey the characters' personalities and moral traits.
The museum presents the historic and systematic art of facial painting to help people learn about traditional culture. It also provides a space for different generations to connect and preserve these artifacts.
